Hello and welcome to the weekend edition of the Modern Maker Podcast. I am your host today, Ben Uweta from Homemade Modern, and our guest for today is actually a friend of mine that I've known since high school, Rodney Beverness.

So I want to have Rod on because he does a little bit of making and building,

but he has sort of an added complication to, he has to do a lot of this stuff

underwater.

So Rob, how did you get started?

I know that you, did you take some class at a college for underwater welding? Was that the program that you were in?

I originally went to school for construction management and then I took an internship in Newport Beach,

it's been about six months. And then I took an internship in Newport Beach,

been about six months, and didn't like sitting behind a desk.

And so it was the management part of construction

that you didn't like.

It was the management, yes. And my brother at the time was already one semester in at

Santa Barbara City College Marine Tech Diving Program. So Marine Tech D, what's the thing?

It's 36 units.

If you take 18 units a semester, you can do it in two semesters.

So what did they teach you in this program? Like what do you act like?

I'm sure there are some parts where classroom stuff, but like what were the physical skills that you

learned how to do underwater?

Physical skills, first of all you have to learn how to scuba dive, you have to be

certified for that. And then most of the diving that we did was Hard Hat,

Surface-supplied diving where you're diving with an umbilical.
