An entitled Karen refuses to pay for my services after I tirelessly worked to take care of her

0:06.2

kid as her nanny. Here's what happened. I have worked in child care for half of my working life

0:11.1

at different centers, but also as a nanny and as a babysitter. As you can imagine,

0:15.3

I've run into a lot of entitled Karen's over the years. And this particular situation was

0:19.8

definitely a lot worse than some of the other ones. First of all, I took this particular job

0:24.4

because I needed something income wise, so I could keep my apartment. I stuck with this job

0:29.2

longer than I should have and honestly in the long run, I regret it. This entitled Karen that I

0:34.0

was working for was a working single mom, and her absolutely sweet heart of a child needed medical

0:39.8

and behavioral interventions. So she got the state's assistance. The state gave me this job through

0:45.5

0:55.3

always supposed to work. This is going to be important later. This was back in 2005, so minimum

1:00.4

wage at the time was $7.25 an hour. The government would pay for half and then the parent was supposed

1:06.5

to pick up the other half. All this in accordance with the contract for the job. It varies depending

1:11.5

on the needs of the family, but the state paid me about $3.66 an hour and this entitled Karen was

1:17.9

supposed to pay me $3.65 an hour at the end of each day. I met with a family and talked over these

1:24.7

terms and everything was agreed upon and signed by both parties. I then turned a copy of the paperwork

1:30.8

back into the employment office for their records. The next day, which was my full day of working

1:35.8

with this entitled Karen and her child, thankfully all went really well. It was mostly spent with me

1:41.2

as well as this child getting to know each other and getting used to each other. The kid did try to

1:45.6

test boundaries just a little bit, but I was very firm on enforcing routines that we already

1:50.2

established. For me, it was a pretty standard first day, something that I would normally expect.
