Kirstarmer is discussing the economic impacts of the war with industry leaders in Downing Street today

as the price of Brent Crude moves above $115 per barrel. No announcements are expected

following the meeting as the government continues to wear up its options.

Speaking on Times Radio earlier, the Minister Emma Reynolds said the government would look

to target support rather than implementing a Liz Trost-style universal energy bailouts.

That help is going to go to those who are most in need and we have said we will do all that

we can to keep costs down but we will provide targeted support because

we saw what happened with the last government when they provided support to some of the wealthiest

families in the country, including everybody else. And quite frankly, those who are on hundreds

of thousands of pounds a year shouldn't really need help with their energy bills.
