The President On the morning of the 2nd of March, 1965, US military aircraft launched a series of devastating bombing raids against targets in the Democratic Republic of Vietnam.

The strikes formed part of Operation Rolling Thunder,

America's escalating response to the so-called Gulf of Tonkin incident,

in which North Vietnamese patrol boats had allegedly attacked the USS Maddox.

It marked a decisive expansion of U.S. involvement in a conflict that would not end until the fall of Saigon in April 1975. Over the course of that decade, nearly 60,000 American

service personnel would lose their lives, with hundreds of thousands more wounded.

The Vietnam War became synonymous with brutality, futility and profound political division.

Its scars, both physical and psychological, would endure long after the fighting ceased.

It was a war fought in suffocating jungle and under relentless strain, where exhaustion, paranoia and fear became constant companions.

Amidst that chaos, however, stories began to circulate, accounts of encounters that seem to fall outside the boundaries of conventional warfare.
