away to Scotland this morning as the dust settles on Friday's results and, of course, a couple of

others that emerged over the course of the weekend. It becomes clear that the one of the major

story, two major stories, I suppose, the existential crisis that the Labour

Party is facing and indeed the existential threat to the Union. I may have slightly exaggerated

the use of the word existential in the context of the Labour Party's crisis, but I don't think anyone

would dispute its relevance to the Union, the, you know,

the very existence of Great Britain and the return to the Scottish Parliament of an increased

number of MPs who are dedicated to Scottish independence, a majority indeed, when you factor

in the Greens. I don't, I mean,

cricky.

Two things, drawing on my very eclectic cultural and sporting heritage.

I mentioned the British Lions a moment ago.

I'm also a huge fan of the proclaimers,

the pop band, the singers, singer-songwriters, the twins.

And they have a song called Cap in Hand.

And as a kid, and I think I was, I would have been a teenager, wouldn't I certainly, at the very latest in my early 20s.

And I used to listen to cap in hand.

And I used to sort of feel a swirl of emotion.

But it wasn't my emotion.

It was secondhand emotion. And the line in it pretty simply was,
