At 4.30 in the morning on Thursday, November 24, 2016, a young woman stumbled onto Interstate 5 near Woodland, California.

One arm was found in a chain wrapped around her waist and there were remnants of bindings around one wrist and both ankles.

Waving her free arm, she flagged down a trucker passing by, who then called the police.

The woman, Sherry Papini, a mother of two young children, had been missing for 22 days.

She had not been seen since Wednesday, November 2nd, when she went out for a jog near where she lived in the Northern California town of Reading.

Her husband Keith came home from work that day to an empty house, no Sherry and no kids.

After a few phone calls, he discovered that his wife had not yet picked up their children from daycare.

During a search of the area, he located Sherry's phone around a mile from their house.

He told police that looked as though it was placed there as a sign for him.

There were strands of Sherry's long blonde hair tangled in the wires of the earbuds and their wedding song.

Michael Buble's everything was playing on a loop.

Sherry's disappearance made national news as local law enforcement, family and friends scoured the area looking for her.

And then a Thanksgiving miracle happened.

The 34-year-old wife and mother was found alive.

Except it was not actually a miracle.

It was a lie.

Sherry refused to talk to the police.

She said they could not be trusted and she was scared of them.

She would only tell her husband what had happened to her.

So, investigators gave him an audio recorder so that he could conduct the interview with her.
