Imagine you're on the platform of a New York City subway and it's late at night. You look up and you

see what appears to be a teenager stumbling and there's a trail of blood behind him. Would you rush in to help him?

That's exactly what happened in the spring of 2009. About a week before Easter, a young teenage boy staggered onto the platform.

He appeared to be waiting for the train except there was a trail of blood behind him.

A stranger saw him that the stranger was a transportation worker and he went up to him. He laid him down on the platform and then he called the paramedics.

He also applied pressure to the wound which it turned out was a severed artery in his right hand. When the medics arrived, they determined that this young man was close to death and rushed him to an emergency room.

The doctors were able to save him. That young man owes his life to the subway employee who went out of his way to help.

And yet, I wonder how that good Samaritan would have acted had he known the truth. The person he was helping was not a victim, not at all.

In fact, his name was John Catayas and he was a killer. He was fleeing from a crime scene where just minutes before he had savagely killed someone.

John had posted a Craigslist ad and in it he said he would do pretty much anything sexually for cash. A man took him up on that offer and they agreed to meet at his place.
