| 0:39.0 | So we thought it would be fun to tell a few spooky St. Stories. |
| 0:43.0 | But first, why would a Catholic show care about Halloween? |
| 0:46.0 | Well, November 1st is All Saints Day, which makes October 31st All Hallows Eve, |
| 0:52.0 | the holy evening before All Saints Day. |
| 0:55.0 | On All Saints Day, the church remembers all the holy men and women that have made it to heaven. |
| 1:00.0 | Then, on November 2nd, we celebrate the Feast of All Souls Day and pray for all of the dead. |
| 1:05.0 | All over the world, different cultures found different ways to celebrate these holy days. |
| 1:10.0 | In France, people would dress up in costumes. |
| 1:13.0 | In England, people would go door to door asking for cakes, called soul cakes, in exchange for prayers for the dead. |
| 1:18.0 | And jackal lanterns were a tradition that started in Ireland. |
| 1:22.0 | When Catholic immigrants from those countries came to the United States, their traditions began to mix and mingle. |
| 1:28.0 | And over time, All Hallows Eve started to look more like what we now know as Halloween in the United States. |
| 1:34.0 | These holy days were not meant to be morbid, but are an important reminder to pray for those in purgatory, |
