Summer is just around the corner.

The days are getting longer and warmer, schools almost out, and there's that happy feeling

of anticipation of what the season will bring.

Maybe it's a vacation you've been waiting for, or a family reunion, or even a small backyard

kickback.

A chance to settle down, reconnect, and thaw our bodies and our minds.

So this week, to help y'all get into that good summer feeling, we're bringing back

one of our favorite episodes from last year, one that perfectly captures the essence

of summer.

My conversation with hip hop legend Big Daddy Kane as he was preparing to headline a hip

hop festival in Brooklyn.

There's absolutely nothing like summer in Brooklyn, New York.

There's this rhythm to it, a cultural syncopation that just doesn't seem to exist anywhere else.

From bedstead of Brownsville, Fort Green to East New York, Crown Heights to Coney Island,

this rhythm is familiar.

And even though COVID-19 continues to cramp life on the city streets this summer, in

Blackbrookland as well, less Black Tuesdays, the unmistakable soundtrack of the Brooklyn

that many of us know and love is still hip hop.

Hip hop as we know it might have been born in the boogie down Bronx, but some of its greatest

MCs came out of Brooklyn.
