Welcome back to another edition of Through the Smoke, a Miami Hurricanes football and recruiting podcast here on the 24-7 Sports Network.

David Lake, joined as always by Gabby Uruitya to continue our once-a-week cadence of the slow,

slow for us at least, month on the calendar in terms of Miami Hurricane football and recruiting goes the month of May

in this once a week show time for us here on through the smoke. But we do have plenty to touch

on. And today, Gabby, we're going to do kind of a full mailback podcast. So I'm going to set a timer once we start taking those

questions for an hour. We'll try and get to as many of those questions as we can within that

hour timeframe. But before we jump into those questions, Gabby, we do have a little bit of

news to touch on. That's happened since the recording

of the last podcast. A couple commitments to the football program. And let's start with a

2024 commitment. Local linebacker Vincent Shavers commits. He is now at Miami Central.

He played the last couple years, I believe, at Mon Senior Pace, 6 foot 1, 205,

three star with an 86 rating at this point in the evaluation process. Last year,

for Pace, he had 56 tackles, eight sacks, and an interception. He ran an 11-8-6 in the 100 meters this track season,

which is a decent time for a linebacker. But Gabby, this commitment, for all intense purposes,

kind of came out of nowhere. What's your impression on how all this came together?

Yeah, I do think it came together pretty quickly. You know, this is the spring evaluation period. So it's an opportunity for the

coaches to get out and watch guys in person, kind of see them with their own two eyes,

you know, going through through their practices. So I think that's a, I think that's a situation

that, you know, where, you know, it was Derek Nicholson. It was Jason Taylor, a couple other guys at Miami, uh, watched him practice at Miami Central. Again, you mentioned he played at Pace last year. So we're just watching him kind of being a part of that central program. It's a program they highly respect. They think those kids are being coached up well. They think they're being coached up in a discipline, you know, manner, which David, I think we can attest for that, you know, central practice is harder than, you know, anyone that I've seen practice. I mean, I think it's highly intense there. So I think they feel like Vincent Schabers is taking those next steps in that, in his developmental process, we saw a year ago,

Stan Kwan Clark kind of making, you know, on that same track.

And I think Vincent Schavers and Stan Kwan are two very different prospects, like Stan Kwan

was more of a safety moving down to linebacker and Vincent Schavers.
