The best managers we know do a great job of retention.

As a matter of fact, retention is one of Mark's favorite delineators and management talent

because it goes to the future potential of the organization.

Strategy gets done much more effectively in places where retention is good.

In this cast, we're going to talk about the bare-bones basics.

This is the stuff that any manager can do.

Really, that any manager wanting to think of themselves as a professional must do.

If you're not taking these simple steps you need to start,

so you can build a base to some of the more powerful techniques we'll share in the future cast.

So with that, let's get right to it. I've noticed a lot of it seems like people were talking more or more about

retention these days on the web. I've been looking at a few blogs etc. It's a pretty

reoccurring topic these days. I think as managers, a lot of managers, Mike, are starting to get smart that a lot of other problems are caused

by the lack of retention or put differently of course, retention solves a lot of your other problems.

You know if you have the right people on your team and you can keep them all kinds of things are made a great deal easier.

If you're thin and there are new opportunities,

they're just, you know, that you can't go after. Yes, and I think there's a lot of social issues

as well that address that also.
