with silence, inheritance, and history. Emmanuel was born and raised in Nigeria,

where he trained as a lawyer. He is the author of A Stranger's Pose, a travel memoir,

and The Sound of Things to Come, a novel. He is a recipient of a Wyndham Campbell Prize for Literature,

and has contributed nonfiction and art criticism to Granta, the New York Review of Books,

Aperture, N-plus-1, art

forum among other places. He lives in Lagos. And by the way, his hotel room was delayed.

So we started this podcast with him in a hotel lobby, which you'll hear was quite loud.
