Summary

Megan and Spanners are back to break down the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix! First, they discuss the dramatic ending from Lando Norris, who almost passed Verstappen (03:12), and why the Emilia track could potentially be taken off the schedule. They look at Verstappen’s bad race week in comparison to others and what could have been behind his poor performance (10:22). They discuss both McLaren's (13:07) and Ferrari’s (21:33) race weeks and strategies and Lando Norris’s sassy radio messages (24:53). Then, they once again talk about Sergio Pérez’s uneventful race and what needs to change (27:02). They break down the continuing drama between George Russell and Hamilton (33:41) and share their most disappointing teams so far this season (42:08). Finally, they share what to anticipate for next week’s race in Monaco (62:31). Host: Megan Schuster Guest: Spanners Ready Producer: Olivia Crerie Learn more about your ad choices. Got a lot to talk about today from some incredible McLaren pace to Max, maybe tentatively starting to lose his gap to the rest of the field, maybe, maybe, maybe, and joining me to get into all of it is Spanners ready. Spanners, how are you? I'm good. Amelia Romagna Grompre. It's Imala Meg. Listen, I'm trying to be fancier than it is. Honestly, I'm going to be real with you. I had to practice saying that out loud a few times before we got on the podcast because I didn't want to mess it up. My Italian is not so good. My Italian's great. That's fine. I don't mind doing it. I mean, there's a bunch of sponsor names if you want to tack them on as well. But I think we'll leave that. But yes, the Imala Grand Prix, isn't it? A grand prix that basically came in and saved us during COVID. It was one of those stepping tracks like Portamao that sort of jumped in and went, you know what, we're ready, we can do a job.

2:01.3

Istanbul, we're like, we can kind of do a job. We've just got to relay the track real quick. No, no, no, no, no. It'll be fine. Don't worry. So it was one of those tracks, I think, that was never destined to come back into Formula One. And this race didn't have rain. and it was nearly rubbish, but then in the end,

2:20.8

it was fine. It was nice to be back here after the race was canceled last year due to flooding in that

2:25.7

area, so very good to be back in Imola, happy for the fans that got to go and see so many

2:30.5

Tofosi out in attendance, sort of a sad ending for them.

2:34.6

But yeah, McLaren and especially Landon Norris really sort of saved us in the end.

2:39.8

Uh, we finally have a second team with some pace.

2:42.5

We finally maybe have a team that is coming up against Red Bull.

2:46.3

You know, it felt all weekend like this was a possibility.

2:49.5

You know, in the past, teams have sort of couched

2:52.5

anytime that they had some good practice sessions going up against Red Bull. It always felt like

2:56.3

in the actual race that would start to slip away. And this time, you know, both Oscar and Lando

3:00.9

were pretty confident in their post practice session saying we actually think we have a chance

3:05.0

at this. And, you know, if Lando doesn't hit gravel on that second to last lap, we very possibly could have had a second Lando win in a row.
