Here again these verses from the readings you've just heard the words of our

Lord I am the good shepherd the good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep and

also the words of John from his first epistle, by this we

know love that he laid down his life for us and so we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers.

Of all the images of Jesus that the scriptures give us,

I think the most gentle and the most comforting, the most heartfelt, is that of the

good shepherd.

As I mentioned at the beginning of the service, the Latin name for this Sunday is a great,

it's the kind of name that makes you want to learn Latin.

You know, Miseracordias Domini Sunday.

It's a great, great name, the merciful heart of the Lord. And nowhere is the
