Why does Jesus use such strong words for Peter? We must understand this that what Peter is suggesting here to Jesus, that he not go to the cross that he not go through this

suffering that he not go to Jerusalem was a real and difficult temptation for our Lord Jesus.

To avoid this pain and suffering,

to avoid the shame and the wrath of God and his anger,

to avoid his death.
