In the name of Jesus. Jesus prays for his church.

Nowhere is this more profoundly revealed to us than in that high priestly prayer of Jesus

in the upper room on the night of his betrayal into death.

This is the very same room where he washed his disciples' feet

as a servant.

This is the very same room where he instituted the meal of his body and blood.

This is the room where he taught them about his love for them,

their love for one another, the coming of the Holy Spirit,

and their fruitful union with him as branches joined to a vine.

And now he prays.

He prays in their presence.

This prayer that is recorded in John Chapter 17

is truly the Lord's prayer.

It is the prayer only the Lord himself can pray. And he prays for his church.

He first prays to the father for himself.

Father, the time has come, he prays.

Glorify your son that your son may glorify you.
