Well, right we thought the coaching carousel was over.

This is huge news. We're not even in the studio right now. We had to basically drop what we were doing and record an emergency podcast. I mean, all of a sudden right now, Michigan, one of the best jobs in the country is now open for business. Yeah. This is in a year where we've seen plenty of shocking things happen and the coaching carousel's already been as wild as it

0:38.2

could be. I think Max is the most shocking thing that we've seen all season. It leaves this Michigan

0:43.6

program in real turmoil and so late when so many other teams have hired such worthy candidates for

0:49.2

their jobs, you wonder where they turn to, right? And where's what, all of three weeks from

0:53.6

the transfer portal opening, January 2nd?

0:56.1

You've got young guys in this roster who are expected to be the core of this team moving forward,

including the quarterback Bryce Underwood.

1:02.5

Everything right now is now clouded.

1:04.6

The future is as cloudy at Michigan as any team in the country.

And I mean, I know we're reacting about 30 minutes after this has happened, but really no idea where this could go from here as far as coaching candidates or what the roster could look like now. Honestly, yeah, absolutely. In Michigan, for anyone wondering, I think Michigan's probably a top 10 to 15 job in college football. I'd put it on par with the jobs like Florida and Penn State that were open this all season two. So this is a massive, massive job opening. The fact that it happened so late, Dalton, we're in December right now after conference championship weekend, after National Signing Day. I don't know what candidates are available to them right now. I mean, maybe like a Jesse Minter, maybe if he doesn't get a head coach job in the NFL, maybe he goes back to Michigan as the head coach there.

1:44.7

I mean, I'm spitball in here, man. I don't even know what candidates are available for the, for the Wolverines right now. So, yeah, it's going to be fascinating. Biff Pogi is the interim head coach. It will be the interim head coach for their bowl game. Maybe they promote him to permanent head coach. They try to figure out the next step after this. but this is obviously not due to on-field reasons for Sharon Moore,

2:02.0

which is why it happened now rather than earlier in the year. I'm sure Michigan is kind of shocked by this too. I want to credit our good friend down in Tuscaloosa, because I was on the radio with our good friend Ryan Fowler, right when this broke, basically at the top of the hit I was on, and he,

2:35.8

the name that he had brought up, is it possible that it could be former LSU coach now, Brian Kelly, who is very much available and didn't get any other job? Is that possible that he could go over to the Michigan job? Maybe that negotiation. We'll see where that goes. But no, you're right. I mean, the list of candidates is a lot shorter than it was, say, three weeks ago, right?

2:34.6

I mean, could they have been a team who said, you're right. I mean, the list of candidates is a lot shorter than it was, say,

2:52.5

three weeks ago, right? I mean, could they have been a team who said, you know, maybe a James Franklin, who knows, right? If he was available, right? You know, if this was a month ago and this happened. But man, the timing of it to me could not be worse. And that's really the deadline. Now I've talked about it with a lot of these vacancies is you want things figured out with enough time to figure out your transfer portal situation, right? January 2nd, that's why a lot of these coaches and, you know, take like Lane Kiffin's situation down at LSU, why they wanted that done right now. We have to set this roster and get ready right now to do this. And now Michigan is at the very beginning stages of that process. So could it be that Biff Pogie is just named the head coach just to get through that part of it and maybe get through even one season or what have you? But no, this is this is as bad at timing as you could ask for if you're a Wolverines fan. And it really leaves a lot on the coaching staff and on the field in question. Yeah, I want to shout out Pete Naco's from On 3 for already putting out a hotboard article of candidates for this job. He mentioned Kaelin de Board. Don't think that's happening anymore in Alabama's actually in the playoff. I mentioned Brian Kelly. He just mentioned right there too. Lincoln Riley, there was talks with him potentially leaving USC. Maybe he does leave for this job. Jesse Minter, we brought it before too. Eli Drink, which I know signed an extension at Missouri, but maybe he takes this job. It's a better job. I would say the Missouri, too. Honestly, man, it's shocking. It's going to be really hard to figure out. I see Jed Fish. Some people are talking about right now, too, the Washington coach who also did not take a job this cycle too. I think priority number one for Michigan is obviously finding a great coach, but also you want to keep Bryce Underwood around, man. I'm this guy you invested a lot of money into, and you don't want to see him transfer out of that program after only one season there. I mean, I know Lane Kiffin looking for a quarterback at LSU. Bryce Underwood was, of course, committed to LSU at one point. So it's, it's, I think it's going to be wild to see what happens to this Michigan roster right now, whether or not the players stay there for the next coach, who the next coach is. I mean, I, again, it's hard to really talk about who we think could take this job, though, because this, this came out of nowhere. No, absolutely. And I think there was an NFL guy that you mentioned in Jesse Minter that I think would be a good candidate. The problem is that the timeline for the NFL doesn't really line up, especially if the Chargers are going to make the postseason. I mean, by that point, you wouldn't have them until the end of the transfer portal window, right? Or even I think about, you know, obviously Jim Harbaugh can't coach there. But, you know, there's been some growing frustrations lately with John Harbaugh, right? With the Baltimore Ravens. But I just don't think the timeline lines up. You need somebody, they need somebody hired in the next two to three weeks because if they, if they get past that transfer portal window and they don't have somebody hired, they don't have some of these negotiations for players working, I think you have a serious concern about what Michigan's roster is going to. And not only, not only for the sake of bringing in new players, but you know, you remember that time, Mack Brown third battle, you know, you have high school recruiting, you have portal players being brought in. And the third battle is retaining the guys you have on your roster. And what does the direction of this program look like for guys like, you know, Bryce Underwood, for Jordan Marshall, for Andrew Marsh, guys like that. And all these great recruits, they've been great. They just had now you're upending, what was it, a top 15 recruiting class that they had this guy that we just talked about a week ago, right? So everything now is in flux and everything with the transfer portal and NIL and all of that can change in a heartbeat. And it appears it just has for Michigan. This is a crucial two to three week period. They need to coach by the end of this month. I don't know who that may be, but they need to figure it out quick. Yeah, absolutely. You mentioned before they signed two top 10 recruits of the country in Carter Meadows, the edge rusher and Savion Heider, the running back. I believe the rule is if you sign your letter for intent and the coach gets fired after that, you can get released

6:11.8

from your letter of intent. Who knows what happens to those two guys? Maybe they stick around in Michigan and they sign to play at Michigan, not for sure or more, but there's a chance that we see two top 10 recruits now kind of reopen their recruitment too. I mean, it's just, again, it's shocking. And it happened because of all field reasons that we won't get into with Sharon Moore. but this is one of those shocking developments

6:28.4

of the coaching carous on now, Dalton all of a sudden,
