Hey folks, Scott Winegard here and this is the M. Critt podcast. Today on the podcast, a new

0:07.2

recurring segment called M. Critt Shadow Boxing. And the idea is Gary Klein, you know, of the

0:14.7

naturalistic decision-making school. He came on the podcast. I think it was episode 179. He talked

0:20.1

about one of the most effective techniques he has discovered to actually prompt people to gain

0:26.5

tacit knowledge and really hone your intuition. And it was called shadow boxing. And the idea was

0:33.2

you'd take an expert in the field and you'd present them a scenario or a case in the case of medicine.

0:39.2

And you would have them making the decisions they would make in everyday life. Now the key,

0:44.8

the magic to this is at certain segments in the presentation you would pause and let the audience

0:50.9

decide what they would do, what they think is going on, their diagnosis, their treatment plan,

0:56.4

before letting the expert continue. And so you're actually, you know, that's where the shadow

1:01.9

boxing comes in. You're training your mind without a real opponent to gain the skills you want

1:08.8

before you get a really sick patient in front of you. So we're going to try that as a recurring

1:13.2

feature on M. Critt. And this is going to be free for residents, but for learners of any ilk.

1:18.4

But specifically, I wanted to have some free content for the residents in case they can't join

1:24.6

or don't want to join. That will be continuous throughout the year. And I think this is like

1:30.8

one of the most effective ways to really relay information to people that are still in the learning

1:34.8

stage, which could be someone 10 years into their attending ship, dumb hood. I don't know,

1:40.5

attending life. And so I hope you like it. And we will continue to refine it. Now I'm going to be

1:47.6

partnered up on this with some of my former fellows. This month is going to be Ryan Barnacle. He'll

1:53.1

be a regular character on this series. And I'm going to try to get some of my other buddies on

1:58.0

here. And maybe we'll have some special guests on various episodes. We'll see how it goes. Now,

2:04.4

how does it work? At various points in the episode, you will hear this sound.
