Summary
There’s no escaping hardships in life. Nobody gets a hall pass on setbacks, conflict, heartache, or disappointment. How you respond, though, is a choice- it’s up to you. Certainly worrying and feeling overwhelmed are normal responses, but you don’t need to get stuck there.
Maybe you’ve been blessed to have some amazing role models who taught you how to turn your heart towards God with vulnerability, prayer, and faith. If not, that’s okay- it’s never too late to learn how. That’s why I’m always so encouraged to spend time with friends who mentor me in their understanding of God and faith, and why I love sharing them with you, too. This week, we’re bringing the bright light of Ellie Holcomb to the Dream Big Podcast to talk about her new book, a devotional called Fighting Words, that will be a gift to your life.
For eight years, Ellie Holcomb recorded and toured full-time with her husband's band, Drew Holcomb and The Neighbors, before stepping off the road when her first child was born. Her solo debut, As Sure As The Sun (2014), landed her a Top 10 hit on Christian radio with "The Broken Beautiful" and a GMA Dove Award for "New Artist of the Year." Her critically-acclaimed sophomore LP, Red Sea Road, followed in 2017. In subsequent years, Holcomb has released two children's books - each with a companion EP of original music written specifically for kids, the second of which earned her a Dove Award for "Children's Album of the Year," in 2020. This summer she released her third full-length solo project, Canyon, to much acclaim. "A deeper sorrow, a higher hope; to be broken is to be human," Ellie Holcomb says to sum up the content of her latest album. Holcomb most recently performed and interviewed on The TODAY Show with Amy Grant for the special FAITHFUL Project. She and her husband Drew Holcomb have also partnered with Tennessee Tourism for a campaign where they've also released two songs earlier this year. Last year, the Holcombs invited their fans into their home virtually nightly for their now-famed Kitchen Covers during the height of the pandemic.
Ellie announces the release of her first devotional book: Fighting Words - 100 Days of Speaking Truth into the Darkness (B&H Publishing), on October 15, 2021. Named after one of her hit songs, "Fighting Words," Holcomb has penned a journaling devotional book filled with encouraging, honest reflections and questions to help you process scripture. Fighting Words is a place where you can wrestle, respond to, and take hold of precious truths in God's Word to help you push back the lies that so often consume, distract, and destroy us.
