Summary

We definitely over-hyped this episode but it's a short (very short) interview with Eliud Kipchoge that was initially meant to be a story that never materialized into writing. The world has known much of Eliud's story as a professional runner because he burst onto the scene at 18 years old. I tried to find out a little bit more about his childhood. He was short on some of his answers but I was able to find a little more to share. So we decided to convert some of the sound bytes into a podcast. I did end up writing a short appreciation of Eliud for SI.com, which you can read here: on.si.com/2OeGY79 This weekend, Eliud will try to run a personal best at the Berlin Marathon. His PB is 2:03:05. The world record is 2:02:57. He's won an Olympic gold medal. He's won Berlin and London multiple times. Regardless of whether or not he gets it, he's had a tremendous career thus far and is the greatest of all-time in my opinion. This episode is brought to you by the Legs Are Feelin Good™. What's up sit with it's your host Chris Chavez here for a mini episode of the

0:04.0

serious Mac podcast I said that I'd only release this episode if we hit 500

0:08.5

five-star reviews on iTunes and you guys didn't let us down. It happened and it happened pretty quick.

So let me take a quick moment to explain this short episode.

0:17.1

It's not your typical Citi's MAGPOD because this was actually never intended to be a

0:20.9

podcast. I was granted a chance at chatting with

0:23.5

Elliot Kipchogi briefly because I was gonna work on a story on him about his

0:27.5

upbringing and his childhood. We know of Elliot as this world-class runner and

0:31.5

arguably the greatest marathoner of all time.

0:34.6

He burst on the senior level as a surprising gold medal winner in the 5,000 meters at the 2003

0:41.6

world championships in Paris.

0:43.0

That's right, 18-year-old Ella Capchouge took down Hickam El Karouge and Kennedy

0:47.6

to Bichela.

0:48.6

Pretty wild stuff, those two guys were in their prime.

0:51.2

And ever since then, he's been in the public spotlight.

0:54.6

So I tried asking him a couple questions about what it was like growing up in Kenya and obviously

0:58.9

with this being over the phone it wasn't the best way of chatting about it. To him, I was just a complete stranger on the other end of line.

1:06.0

So I'll help tell some of the story and I'll interject with Elliot SoundBites.

1:10.0

Again, apologies for the quality. This wasn't intended to be a podcast but we love you guys

1:14.8

and figured you'd want to hear from the greatest marathoner of all time so we'll

1:19.5

start off with about a minute or so Berlin Chatter and of course I did try to get him to say

1:24.7

Alex of feeling good but it didn't quite work.
