Summary

Episode 119: Entrepreneur extraordinaire, DJ, and designer Emily Duong is back for another inspirational conversation about quitting your 9 to 5 and the tools you need to actually pull it off. From Parkinson’s Law to the 80:20 rule to work life “balance,” Emily and Natalie share insights, stories, and a few aha moments that pushed them both to take the leap into entrepreneurship. The two have also struck up a friendship that has led them to late nights in fancy Miami clubs networking up a storm and chasing down Kevin O’Leary so they could pitch to him — great minds do think alike. Today’s episode also covers what it’s like to face adversity as a young entrepreneur and how that shapes initiative, plus how we can eliminate the Sunday Scaries once and for all. Be prepared to see another side of Natalie as she shares behind-the-reel stories you don’t want to miss. Thank you so much for being a part of our podcast community! You know with my background like my ethnic background and culture I just think I

0:29.7

faced a lot of adversity at a young age and also being an athlete growing up so I feel like I was in the

0:36.4

phase of like going through stuff alone a lot and so by the time it came to like doing a business

0:42.4

and taking initiative I was very used to that feeling like, okay, you have to take initiative, like no one's going to help you and no one's going to make this easy and sweet for you, right? Like I feel like I saw a lot of adversity at a young age, so that's why like I don't believe in work life balance because that is part of why there is a thing called Sunday scaries, right? Like I think people get scared to go to work on Monday

1:04.8

and they throw out, oh, I have the Sunday scaries.

1:06.9

Like I wish I could stay brunching and stay drunk on a Sunday.

1:10.5

But I think that's the issue is like,

1:11.9

it's because you separate life and work too much and I try to merge them into one

1:20.4

Hello Hello. Welcome back to the real podcast. Can you guys believe that it's almost August?

1:27.0

Can you believe it? I am recording this on July 21st, this intro, and I'm not okay with that because that means that the summer is

1:33.8

almost over and summer is my favorite season not just because of the weather

1:37.8

because I'm a very strange person when it comes to weather anything below below 70 is cold, like it's chilly for me. 70

1:46.0

and above is the weather that I thrive in. I mean me and my boyfriend have a joke that

1:51.5

like summer nap comes out like in the summer I

1:53.8

swear I have an alter ego or something because I just thrive in the heat and

1:58.2

obviously like yes sometimes the heat is uncomfortable but I really really do love it, and I prefer any day over like chilly weather.

2:06.0

Summer is my favorite season, and I can't believe that it's almost August already.

2:10.0

I feel like that is just not okay. The summer has absolutely flown by. I mean, I think it's a good thing because that means that, you know, things have been going on. I mean, in my personal life, there has been so much going on and I think there is a great energy in the air.
