Fortitude, the strength of mind that enables a person to encounter danger or bear pain or adversity with courage.

If you've lived, then you've been called upon to show fortitude at some point in your life.

Maybe it was something as simple as asking that boss you don't like for a raise or maybe it was something far more serious like being asked to speak at a funeral for someone that you love.

To live is to experience adversity and pain.

Sometimes even danger.

And if you're living greatly, we're called upon to face that pain with courage.

Courage.

What really is to courage.

The mental or moral strength of venture,

persevere and withstand danger, fear or difficulty.

So courage is not the absence of fear. To show courage is to be afraid but to saddle up anyway and get the mission

done. I believe that fortitude and courage are inextricably linked. They go hand in hand.

I also believe that these characteristics are absolutely essential in the next generation of American leaders.

My next guest is one of that generation.

Eli Crane.
