Summary

This Wednesday episode begins with some fun stories about airplane travel. Then Andy and Brendan get to the CJ Cup, where a great field will play at Congaree. They express enthusiasm for this rare fall windfall but lament some lack of creativity. This leads to a discussion on the news of the PGA Tour’s four new elevated events -- what’s good and what’s a miss with this new reworked schedule for 2023 and what needs to be better for the years that follow? There’s a sidebar discussion on an amusing interview with the head of the champions tour. The last segment reacts to the New Yorker article and the head of Golf Saudi saying he will just create his own majors if they don’t let in his players.

Now the shotgun's starting golf is full of mathematics, there's a lot of a lot of setup work that we have to do in order to make a tournament work, so I'm going to demonstrate to you just exactly how we do a shotgun start here.

And here we go.

Greetings and welcome to a Wednesday edition of the shotgun start. It is October 19th. Andy, how are we doing?

0:45.0

Brendan, I'm doing well. I survived a cross-country flight with a two-year-old. It wasn't pretty. Almost didn't make it, but got through it.

0:58.0

What was it pretty? What was almost about it?

1:02.0

You know, she just kind of lost it on the last hour, trying to get it to move around, then didn't want to go back into the seat for landing, and that's where the meltdown happened.

1:16.0

It was rough, rough, last 30 minutes.

1:20.0

You see James Corden, the guy, I'm not really familiar with his work, he's a late-night host, and he apparently is a jerk at restaurants, so everybody's coming out with their own James Corden stories about how he was not a great person.

1:32.0

And one of them was on an airplane, there's a woman holding the screaming baby, and they brought her through to first class and put her next to Corden, and everybody was like, oh my gosh, this is not going to go well.

1:44.0

But he's classy about it. He flips over, puts his blindfold on, headphones on, and flips over, goes to sleep. They're trying to ignore it.

1:52.0

And then at the end, they're deplaning, and this is a side story on kids on planes. They're getting off, the baby's going nuts screaming, and the woman's trying to get the bag out of the overhead.

2:04.0

And she's like, could you just hold the baby for a second, and he gives the baby to him, turns out he begrudgingly takes it, and she gets the bags, turns out it's his wife and kid.

2:17.0

No.

2:18.0

It was a wife and kid, so it started out like he's a good guy, he didn't flow a fit about being next to the screaming baby.

2:25.0

But apparently, like he just put on his blindfold, kid noise, kid sleep headphones, like went to sleep and tried to pretend like his wife and baby didn't exist.

2:34.0

So that was the surprise ending was it was actually his kid and wife.

2:38.0

So anyways, that just triggered me, story time I saw somewhere on social media, it might not be true, but there's everybody's just coming out of the woodwork with stories about how that guy's a big a-hole, the service workers.

2:50.0

Anyways, yeah, flying with kids is always a precarious situation.

2:54.0

Let's get to, oh, I just want to shout out.

2:57.0

I'm going to the National Links Trust Symposium, I'm a municipal golf next week.
