Welcome to Syntax, the podcast with the tastiest web development treats out there. We have

0:16.9

kind of an interesting show for you today that is web development adjacent. I promise there will

0:23.8

be some JavaScript in the show. But we're going to talk about electronics for beginners.

0:31.0

Something that is very interesting to a lot of developers, including myself, is tinkering and fixing

0:38.0

and playing with electronic items around the house. So specifically around

0:45.2

you're working with microcontrollers, but also just the basics of like how do batteries work?

0:51.8

What are the different voltages? What's amperages? What are watts? What is GPIO?

0:57.2

Sometimes you get into these things and you start looking at tutorials and you're going,

1:01.8

oh my goodness, I don't know what any of these things are. And what I found is that once I had

1:07.7

it's with everything, once I had a good base of how electronics work, you're able to pretty much

1:15.0

tackle anything, not anything, but you can tackle a lot of DIY projects without

1:23.4

getting too deep. For a lot of the stuff I'm going to talk about, you don't even know how to

1:26.2

solder something, which is just plugging stuff together and running code that somebody else wrote.

1:32.5

Yeah, I'm really excited because I like my level of electronic prowess comes in and like,

1:40.2

I can install an outlet or an install a let's switch. I can do very basic things. I am bad at

1:46.7

soldering. I soldered one, I made like a motion controller that used a weemote in college,

1:53.2

that used an IR, like a custom IR bar that I built. And like I had to solder that thing and it

1:59.3

like didn't work over and over again because I was just really bad at it. I didn't know what I was

2:03.1

doing. And I haven't gotten any better at that. So I'm interested to hear a little bit about some

2:07.7

of the stuff that you have to say here in general because I would consider myself the very much
