Best gift I've ever received has to be a bike when I was younger, a pedal bike.

It was a sort of slick little road bike and I remember it was all like, it was so, it was all wrapped up,

it was so obvious what it was obviously because nothing shaped like a bike and I had a little ribbon on it and I was so

a guess. For that was a life changer and I'm still sort of big on cycling around my area now so, for that one change me a little.

Hello and welcome to something rhymes with purple. This is the podcast, this is a podcast about words and language and whatever my co-presenter and I can come up with essentially and my co-presenter is none other than the brilliant Giles brand.

It's good to be with you again and I'm excited about this week because we're talking about one of the words or the subjects that I think is fundamental to everything and it's energy.

Years ago when I was doing work on, I was trying to write a book about what drives people, what makes people, what makes life happen, what makes people succeed.

I met a lot of very high-powered individuals who were great achievers and several of them gave me the same answer. Most pithily put to me by a man called Lord King who was then running British Airways, I said to what do you attribute your success and the success of your company.

He said, energy, energy, using my own and harnessing that of other people, energy, drive it forward, energy is everything, where would we be without energy.

So given that there is literally in the world an energy crisis with the cost of the energy that we need and it feels as a gas and all that going up and also personal energy, we thought we'd talk about the world of energy.

Did you know by the way that the word energy is linked to orgy so all is not lost.

I'm just giving jazz a hard time.

No, it's probably as if you were exactly, for me that would be a trip down memory lane, I mean just actually orgy, we would trip into fantasy land.

How about you have a taken part in an orgy? Of course not.

No not of I, but when I was at university there were some people I knew who didn't want quite an orgy but they took off all their clothes and they sort of mails and females and sort of took showers together.

It was like an orgy, I didn't take part but I knew it was going on and I didn't have the nerve to take part.
