Earlier today, I spoke with His Majesty the King to request the dissolution of Parliament.

The King has granted this request, and we will have a general election on the 4th of July.

That was the Prime Minister in Downing Street, getting rained on, getting drowned out by protesters playing music, but calling a general election in the UK.

So for the last few months, British politics, we've tried to not talk about when the general election is going to be.

But let's be honest, it has kind of dominated the conversation, that guessing game.

The guessing is over now, which means the focus is entirely on the choice that you have on the

4th of July. Now, the complete irony is that earlier on today, I was at a podcasting festival

with a load of podcasting fans and also some industry bigwigs.

And it was about how the BBC is going to cover the general election in podcasts.

And all morning I was thinking, I better come up with like some special magic formula for how

we're going to do it. What's this? How are we going to do? How are we going to do it?

And then I realized there isn't a magic formula. We're just going to do what we do anyway, which is you, me, friends of the podcast, the best experts, just

chatting through and working out what has been happening today. So that's what we're going to do
