There is a stabilizing, deepening, strengthening,

strengthening, firming effect of the sovereignty of God in our lives.

I've seen it in many of you over the years as it has developed. And the doctrine

of God's unconditional election in choosing us for his own and pledging himself to save us eternally

has a massive stabilizing effect on the life. Once you grasp it and it grasps you. For several years I treated the

doctrine of election like something to debate and not something to depend on but

Father, we take from this teaching of the Lord Jesus that flesh and blood, that is what we are in and of ourselves, will never yield faith in Jesus Christ, not even the recognition of him as the

Son of God, but only the revelation of the Father, breaking in through the limitations and

corruptions of flesh and blood to open our hearts to the truth. And I just pray earnestly

tonight, Father, that you would be at work with revealing power in this room and all through

this whole complex of buildings to yield truth and to cause your son's reality to be known in deeper ways than we've ever known him before

and your own character to be discerned and felt deeper, more fully, more life-changingly than we've ever known you before.

Lord, I pray that no games be played with the Bible or with ideas in these classes in the BITC,

but rather that we come face to face with the living God and everlasting reality and ultimate

truth and that we feel that great things are at stake far greater than

are at stake in most of the halls of political powerful places in the world tonight
