Over the years, Donald Trump has not been shy about expressing his disdain for Washington, D.C.

And he made the city itself, which has overwhelmingly voted for Democrats, a target in his re-election campaign.

Here he is at an event in Florida in July.

We will take over the horribly run capital of our nation in Washington, D.C., and clean it up,

renovate it, and rebuild our capital city so that it's no longer a nightmare of murder and crime.

At that rally, he also talked about visitors to the nation's capital being, quote,

shot, mugged, and raped.

While the Jefferson Memorial and other monuments have been targeted with graffiti,

there have been no rapes, muggings, or shootings at national monuments in the city within the

past five years.

That's according to the National Park Service data.

The city is the seat of power for the nation.

It's also home to more than 670,000 residents with their own local government and city council.

Washingtonians pay federal and state taxes but have no voting representation in Congress.

So what does Republican control of the House, Senate, and White House mean for the District of Columbia, its residents, and the surrounding region?
