0:20.9	University. This is the first post-election episode of our election 20-20 series, and at this point,
0:29.2	we're recording this late Thursday morning. We still don't know who will be the next president of
0:34.1	the United States. Things maybe look a little bit more promising for Joe Biden than
0:38.5	they do for Donald Trump, but there's plenty of counting still to come and certainly plenty of
0:43.7	lawsuits. But while there is an awful lot of uncertainty around this election more than any election
0:49.9	since 2000, there are some things that we do know. First off, it's clear that Joe Biden will
0:58.1	win the popular vote, and it won't even be particularly close. As things stand right now,
1:04.9	Biden's up by right around $3.7 million in the popular vote, and that margin's almost certain to widen over time.
1:13.0	What this means is that Democrats have now won the popular vote in seven of the last eight
1:18.1	elections, something no party has done before in U.S. history.
1:22.7	It's also the fourth consecutive popular vote victory for Democrats.
1:26.5	And the last time that happened for any
1:28.5	party was the Democrats from 1932 through 1948. So let's start there. What do you make of this
1:36.6	pretty significant divergence between the popular vote and the electoral vote. Doc?
1:54.5	Well, I guess for me, it's the population size of the coast, more than anything else. I mean, you've got a bazillion people packed into California, not so much Washington and Oregon, but California and there and New York, and having lived on the East Coast for a while, and living shoulder to shoulder literally with those folks.
