In a classroom in upstate New York near the town of Hyde Park,

a group of girls are learning about the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

The UDHR is an expression of the fundamental values which are shared

by all members of the international community.

It's not far from the Roosevelt family estate.

Their President Franklin Delano Roosevelt once lived with his wife Eleanor.

It was Eleanor who helped to write that most important document.

And this summer workshop is in her memory.

Everyone has the right to life, liberty and security of persons.

No one shall be held in slavery or servitude.

So why might Eleanor Roosevelt be such a good role model for young women worldwide?

Well, in the next half hour we'll learn how she was not just a political wife,

but also an international stateswoman in her own right,

a passionate advocate for social change in the United States,

and a pioneering woman who transformed the role of first ladies to come.
