Earlier today, Blackpool Football Club have announced that after an incident on Saturday,

a Blackpool fan named

Tony Johnson died earlier today. A statement from Lancashire Constabulary on Sunday said that

an incident occurred at around 7pm on Saturday when an altercation broke out outside of a pub.

Tony Johnson suffered a serious head injury and has since died. In the immediate aftermath of

news like this, none of the football that we're going to talk about today feels like it matters all that

much. George, no one should ever go to a football game and not come home. Yeah, exactly. And I think

you summarised there pretty well how when incidents like this happen and

it is rare that it does happen, suddenly the football that took place is pretty irrelevant

because for Tony Johnson to go and watch the team that he supports, for there to be an altercation

that leads to this is heartbreaking.

And we've spoken about fan behaviour in the last couple of years

and how maybe post-COVIDs there have been issues with fan behaviour.

And, you know, anybody who goes to games on a Saturday or midweek looking for trouble,

hopefully we may see that behaviour

change off the back of this because it's desperately sad, wholly avoidable. And a situation

that for Tony Johnson and his family and his friends, it's life-watering for them. So

thoughts and prayers with the Blackpool FC family and everyone who knew Tony. May Tony Johnson rest in peace
