Summary

100% of the things you do now get done, which is why you should practice a Do It Now strategy. a) Create a repository – Have a place where you can organize and plan tasks that you are unable to do right now. This document, folder, or list is something that should be reviewed and updated daily. b) Focus and refocus – Treat focusing and re-focusing like two separate muscles that need to be exercised. Give tasks your full intention when working on them and practice refocusing when switching from one task to another. c) Try not to use deadlines – Telling yourself “X needs to be done by X time” creates resistance for you in accomplishing the task. Dedicate a minimum amount of time to the task each day (as needed) until it is done. Remember that prioritization is the antidote for procrastination. People procrastinate because they haven't figured out their What, Who, and How, so they don't know what to do Now. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

But let me tell you a better secret, 100% of the things you do now get done.

0:17.6

We work within the time frame that we live in, which is a linear time frame.

0:22.6

How do we codify linear time, usually through some sort of calendar, right?

0:29.0

You have somewhere, some sort of calendar, it might be on your laptop, it might be on

0:34.9

your desk, it might be on your phone, it might be all three places.

0:39.2

By studying your calendar every day, you study what you're going to do today, in person

0:45.0

on the phone, email and media, radio, print, TV and social media, study it.

0:49.6

What am I doing today?

0:50.9

How productive, accessible and gracious am I about what I'm doing today, but even more

0:55.3

important than the third of what you're studying what you're doing is study what you're

0:58.7

not doing today.

1:00.1

Look at the whitespace of your calendar, that's the blank stuff, that's where the majority

1:03.8

of your time is wasted.

1:05.6

And so although you say you work 18 hours a day, if you and I went through an exercise

1:09.7

of being a student of your calendar and being productive or accessible, you'd find that

1:13.9

in that 18 hours, you'd probably waste about 12 of them.

1:16.8

All that free time that you're not productive, accessible and gracious, study it, pay

1:21.3

attention to it, put intention into it, and you'll create more coincidences, and then

1:25.5

finally, study sleep.
