where the percentage of teams within five games

of a playoff spot this season ranks historically.

And we say that it ranks second behind 1994.

After we recorded the code for those calculations

changed slightly as did the results.

And 2014 with 25 out of 30 teams within five games

of a playoff spot now stands alone in first place.

1994 now barely cracks the top 25.

So we withdraw our comments about what a shame it was

that we never got to see the end of that season.

Good riddance, 1994.

It's a shame that that strike didn't come sooner.

The only other change was to the percentage of teams

within five games of a playoff spot

at this point last season, which was actually 15, not 17.
