If baseball were different, how different would it be?

Hello and welcome to episode 2346 of Effectively Wild

I'm Meg Rally of Fangraphs and I am joined as always by Ben Lindberg of the

0:38.1

ringer. Ben, how are you? Not as always, but in this instance, what? Here we are. The two of us,

0:44.0

you and me again. Yeah. I'm doing okay because I was prepared to be up in arms about the fact

0:51.5

that the royals have signed Dallas Keichel to a minor league contract and are

1:30.9

starts that Rich Hill has made in AAA. Not so hot. Not so great. So I'm now not mad. I am sad

1:39.3

because he, in his past two starts facing the Iowa Cubs and the Toledo mudhands, he's allowed

1:46.3

seven runs in each of those starts.

1:49.5

Yeah.

1:49.8

And one of them, only five was earned.

1:51.9

But, yeah, he's coming off of a Tuesday start where he went four innings, gave up 10 hits,

1:59.2

seven runs all earned, walked three struck out, three,

2:03.1

gave up three home runs.

2:04.7

That's not going to get you to the big leagues.
