Summary

EWFI
Ben Lindbergh and Meg Rowley banter about the Mets not signing first-round pick Kumar Rocker, owner Steve Cohen’s comment about the decision, and the amateur draft as a salary-suppressing institution, then discuss how injuries have destabilized some of the major end-of-season awards races. After that (31:51), they talk to Cleveland native (and Baseball Prospectus writer) Russell Carleton about his history as a fan of the team soon to be known as the Cleveland Guardians, when he changed his mind about changing its name, the real history of the old name, what he and other Clevelanders think of the new name, the potential for a rechristening in Atlanta, and more (plus a postscript on a record streak of alternating wins/losses).

0:29.7

as always by Ben Limberg of the Ring of Ben How are you?

0:32.4

Oh, I'm alright. How are you?

0:33.8

I'm alright. I don't know what's going on in the world, but I'll do the hat I'm fine.

0:37.8

You've been doing a Twitter detox. How's that been for you?

0:41.0

It's been fine so far. I mean, it has been less than 24 hours.

0:46.6

I will say that it has made me realize how often I just reflexively navigate to Twitter

0:52.2

without any real, not in search of anything in particular, just as a thing that I do when

0:59.2

I've closed one tab and I'm preparing to open another one on my browser.

1:03.2

So in that respect, it's been illuminating. It's certainly been a less feisty 24 hours than

1:11.4

I typically experienced. So in that respect, it's been really nice. You know, it's like

1:15.6

I came down from the deadline and I felt relaxed, not anxious, watched at last. So right

1:22.0

a book. I was like, how this feels great. You know, it would ruin it Twitter. So I decided

1:26.0

to take a little break.

1:27.0

Yeah, that's nice. You had to be extremely on Twitter during the deadline. I guess it's

1:32.0

unfortunately for you. It's not really a choice about whether to be on it or not be on it

1:37.4

because you kind of have to be on it at least at certain times just as an assigning editor

1:42.2

as someone who has to be aware of breaking news. And obviously a lot of baseball news is

1:46.8

broken via Twitter. So it would be hard to walk away to do one of those celebrity moves

1:52.5

and announce that you are quitting Twitter and then inevitably return in a week or two

1:57.4

when you start craving attention. But you have not done that. You were just merely stepping
