Summary

Ben Lindbergh and Meg Rowley banter about Meg’s airport problems, discuss the All-Star Game (touching on mic’d up and profane players, unsightly uniforms, All-Stars being friendly on the field, and MLB embracing the game’s lack of stakes), lament that the zombie-runner rule may not be (un)dead after all, follow up on more players with high highlight-to-value ratios, reflect on Will Craig seeking solace in the KBO, celebrate David Fletcher’s 24-game hitting streak and unique offensive profile, examine some entertaining pettiness between Aaron Judge and Jose Altuve, and assess the state of the standings, focusing on teams that may make a late-season charge. Then they wrap up with a Stat Blast about the underperforming (but opponent-outscoring) Marlins and note some news about Roy Campanella.

| 0:00.0 | I watched the plans coming in, felt my heart be big in, and I didn't let it stay. |
| 0:15.3 | Hello and welcome to episode 1720 of Effectively Wild, a baseball podcast for bandgrass, brought |
| 0:28.4 | to you by our Patreon supporters. I am Ben Lembert of the ringer joined by Meg Valley of |
| 0:34.2 | bandgrass. Meg, I understand Denver did not want to let you leave. |
| 0:38.8 | I love Denver, Ben. It's a cool city. My family in Colorado had a lovely trip, got to see friends |
| 0:47.9 | in person, and you know, pinch them. I didn't do that. I don't pinch people that's rude, but you know, |
| 0:53.5 | they enjoy their company in person for the first time in quite a while. But then I wanted to go |
| 1:00.9 | home because I was tired and that Denver airport was like, no, you live here now. So my understanding |
| 1:10.6 | is that the airport lost power. I mean, I witnessed that. I saw the power kind of fritz in and out |
| 1:16.9 | while I was there, which was strange because you'd think that of all the places that really don't |
| 1:21.2 | ever lose power that the airport would be high on the list. Yeah, you'd think you'd want a generator |
| 1:26.0 | or some sort of redundant system set up at an airport. Well, and the speed with which the power came |
| 1:31.0 | back on made me think that actually all of those systems worked exactly the way they were supposed to, |
| 1:36.1 | right? That's good. But it did cause some issues and then the plane coming to Denver to take me |
| 1:45.9 | back to Phoenix was I think on the tarmac for like two hours. And then by the time it arrived, |
| 1:51.5 | you know, there are rules about how long a flight crew can be active for safety, right? You don't |
| 1:57.4 | want, you don't want sleepy pilots. That'd be bad. Right. So that crew couldn't fly. Yeah. |
| 2:05.4 | Again, for everyone's benefit. And then there was another crew that was supposed to come, but they |
| 2:10.6 | got delayed. So they're waiting on a crew from Philadelphia. So anyway, I was supposed to be home |
| 2:18.5 | by like six p.m. last night. And the actual time I got home was close to one a.m. So that seems |
| 2:26.2 | like a long time for a flight that's like an hour and 20 minutes. Yeah, I think it only takes |
| 2:32.1 | 12 hours or so to drive from Denver to Phoenix. You probably could have made it. It's just about |
