So obviously when a player leaves as a free agent, you get the leaks.

All the leaks about what happened. Everybody blaming each other.

So one of the leaks that came out last night was fascinating. It came from Jeff Passon.

Jeff Passon said that Edwin Diaz was a little bothered that he wasn't kept in the loop on the Metz signing of Devin Williams.

Yes. And my initial reaction to this was, I kind of get it. Like it's bad bed sign manner. He's your closer, Edwin. I know he's a free agent, but you want to keep him. At least you want to have him believe you want to keep him, assuming you do want to keep him. If you go out and sign a top five closer, which,'s face it, Devin Williams has been throughout his career, wouldn't you want to let Edwin know, hey, by the way, you may have heard the news, I want to make this clear, we're not looking to replace you. We're looking to supplement him with you. So we'll go back to the negotiations, but just want to let you know we love you.

Yeah.

That was my impression.

That would have helped.

So that would have helped with that being said.

He had a contract.

He opted out of it as is his right to do.

Yes.

But as soon as he opts out and becomes a free agent is now talking to other teams, he's no longer technically a Met.

It's not like he should be privy to everything that the Mets are doing, because you don't know

if he takes some of that information and goes and tells his agent who then tells somebody

else and it gets a competitive disadvantage for the Mets.

So by necessity, the Mets really can't tell him anything.

You know what I mean?

And so it also, I don't know from an Edwin-Dia standpoint, how in contact he was with the Mets.

Right?

We know that Pete basically didn't talk to him at all.
