Before a live studio audience at the Cato Institute benefactor's summit this month,

I sat down with Cato's Corey DeAngelis

and Neil McCluskey to talk about education about why educational freedom is a better

target than mere school choice. We started with a discussion about why teachers, if they were to

examine the data, I ought to be pushing for more educational freedom rather than

less.

Uh, gentlemen, I want to start with this. when we were listening to Dr. Steve Perry who spoke at this event and

And I felt like he was speaking directly to me.

I am a parent of two small children.

They are not of school age yet, but as many people know,

I call Louisville, Kentucky home.

And most recently, hundreds of teachers in my home state,

particularly in my hometown of Louisville, have done the following. They've failed to show up for work

conveniently during a state legislative session. They've lied to their employers

about why they failed to show up for work. These are called Sick Outs.

They drove the school system to close on several consecutive days

because of the sheer number of teachers

who failed to show up for work and lied

about why they did not want to go to work.
