| 0:41.3 | And what the bill is about is forcing or saying that police officer candidates before they turn into cops have to have a bachelor's degree or turn 25 before they're able to carry a gun and wear a badge. |
| 1:00.7 | Now, right now, under current state law, peace officers have to be 18 years old and have to have a high stool diploma or the equivalent, which is the GED. |
| 1:11.8 | And what the Assemblyman is saying, that the bill, he hopes the bill will reduce the number of times police officers shoot or harm people by adding this educational and maturity component. |

| 1:31.9 | that were looked at were less likely to use force in encounters with suspects. |
| 1:39.0 | And there was another study in 2007 that showed the same thing. |

| 1:45.9 | likely to use physical force than those with only high school education. And it makes a lot of |
| 1:53.2 | sense if you think about it. Why? Because maturity has a lot to do with it. For those of you |
| 1:59.9 | that are in the 40s, 50s, 60s, go back to the time you were in your 20s. |
| 2:04.6 | Or late teens, you're out of your mind. |
| 2:08.0 | Relative to today when there is, I'm hoping, some sense of maturity, some sense of looking at the big picture. |
| 2:17.7 | And so what Jones Sawyer, the assemblyman is saying, is either age over 25 or a bachelor's degree, at least. |
