I'm Mark Stephen.

This week's podcast was recorded in a truly beautiful spot in the Cairngorms on the Marlodge Estate, just at the head of Glenderry.

Now, you can only really get there on foot or by bicycle, and it's a gateway into the mountains from the D-side end.

Not only that, it's where a pioneering regeneration project is quite clearly taking shape

to restore woodlands to these hills and glens.

Now I went there with Shaila Rao, who's been working for the National Trust for Scotland

at Marlodge for over 20 years, and Shailaas witnessed the changes in this exquisite landscape with her own eyes

we've got two big glens going away from us one is Glenderry

another is Glen Louie Begg which takes you to the Larry Gru and through Tavi Moore

and so we're at the foot of the the that goes up Derry Kyrngorm,

one of the Monroe's on the estate.

And looking out west, we can see Carnarvine, another of the big Monroe's here on Marlodge.

This is almost painfully beautiful because we've got clear blue skies.

There's lots of Scotch pine here. There isn't much

snow about, you know, the snow on the summits. Most of it is just heather clad, you know,

although it's up time of year when it's brown and sear. There's mist just on the horizon
