Summary

This is a Grave Talks CLASSIC EPISODE!

Perched on a hilltop in Manhattan, the Morris-Jumel Mansion has witnessed more than 250 years of American history—and it’s said the past hasn’t let go.

Built in 1765 by British colonel Roger Morris as a summer retreat, the house quickly became more than just a getaway. George Washington once used it as his headquarters during the Revolutionary War, and later it became the home of Aaron Burr, infamous for his duel with Alexander Hamilton. Within its walls unfolded stories of love, scandal, innovation, political intrigue… and tragedy. Deaths, rumored affairs, and even suicide have left an emotional imprint on the mansion.

Today, many believe that imprint lingers. Visitors report seeing shadowy figures on the grand staircase, hearing whispers in empty rooms, and feeling the heavy presence of the mansion’s former residents.

In this episode of The Grave Talks, paranormal investigator Vincent Carbone takes us inside the haunted Morris-Jumel Mansion to explore the stories—and the spirits—that still roam its halls. This is Part Two of our conversation.

Welcome to part two of our interview with Vincent Carbone about the haunted Morris Jumel Mansion.

0:07.9

For you, obviously, I'm assuming there's probably a lot of spirits there.

0:12.0

Why don't you talk about that and the identities of some of the more common ones or ones that make themselves known more commonly than others. Absolutely. So,

0:25.3

first and foremost, Eliza Jamel is going to be the most notable one. We've had a lot of activity

0:32.7

around her bedroom, especially when we have predominantly women in there. And on every investigation, we do an

0:41.5

experiment. Because when I first saw investigating here, I noticed that there's a spike in

0:46.0

activity when it was just mostly women in her room. So what we do on every investigation is we split

0:50.7

the group up and we see who we get more activity with, the men or the women.

0:57.5

Oddly enough, since we've moved her furniture out of her room a year and a half ago to start doing renovations,

1:04.2

the activity in her room has actually died down.

1:08.5

So there's that.

1:09.9

We have a ton of activity in Aaron Burr's bedroom, which would have also

1:13.9

been Steven Jamel's bedroom, Roger Morris's bedroom. We have a ton of activity in there. The freakyest

1:20.6

EVP that I've never caught, that not I personally, but my team has ever caught that I've ever been

1:26.1

associated with was caught in

1:27.8

Aaron Burr's room. To this day, we can't figure it out. We also have a ton of activity in the

1:33.6

colonial kitchen, and obviously that would be one of the several servants that were here. Now,

1:40.3

it is worth noting that during the Morris era, they did have slaves, but during the

1:44.8

Jamels, they did not.

1:46.9

And we don't know if that's because if it was a moral compass kind of thing for them, or if it's

1:51.7

because Stephen Jamel being French, his family lived through the Haitian uprising.

1:56.8

And so maybe he just didn't want to go through that again.
