Summary

Pregnancy and birth don't require perfection to be empowering. In this solo episode, Dr. Rebecca Dekker shares share five life lessons she's learned over 14 years as a nurse, mother, and founder of Evidence Based Birth. She offers grounding guidance for navigating pregnancy, birth, and early parenthood with more trust, self-compassion, and calm.

This episode centers on the idea that you don't have to know everything to have a positive birth experience. Instead, Dr. Dekker explores how building a supportive team, staying connected to your body, and focusing on what you can control can transform how you approach birth. She also reflects on the value and meaning of childbirth for those who choose it, the importance of respectful and empowering care, and the lifelong practice of letting go of what's outside your control.

Hi everyone and welcome to today's episode of the evidence-based birth podcast.

0:48.8

Today's episode is a special one that I had the idea for a while back and I ran it by our team here at EBB and they said, yes, let's do it. I know our focus here at evidence-based birth is on the evidence,

0:56.0

but today I feel called to share some lessons with you that I've learned as a mother, a nurse,

1:01.8

and as someone who's been running evidence-based birth for 14 years now. My hope is that for those

1:08.3

of you who are listening today that some of these words might impart

1:11.5

comfort or wisdom and a sense of peace and calm.

1:28.3

anyways, that I wrote this episode for you from my own heart, my own brain, and my own

1:33.7

lived experience in my body with no machine involved at all. It's just me here sharing some

1:39.2

lessons I've learned with you. So there are five lessons I've learned over the past 14 years working at EBB. And I think

1:47.2

if you can internalize at least a few of these lessons, it can help further a sense of peace in your

1:53.2

body and spirit, especially if you're pregnant and expecting a baby. But also, if you're listening

1:59.3

as a birth worker, I think these lessons might be
