So pain seems to be the number one thing

that people I talk to, young people,

are worried about when they think about giving birth.

Pain management is also a huge reason for the health care systems involvement in birth.

We started back with EBB Podcast Number 8 with that overview of pain management

and in that podcast we talked about how there are two major ways of viewing pain during labor.

One way of viewing labor pain is that it's unnecessary and

that the pain relieving benefits of medications are always worth their

potential risks or side effects. This is called the pain relief perspective.

And it's very common in today's societies.

In fact, most doctors and nurses

are trained to assess people's pain

and try to eliminate it if at all possible.
