A flat ninth ninth is a particularly dissident interval, a space between two notes that most

composition professors would tell you to avoid. Then again, every rule is made to be broken

and every flat ninth can sound beautiful.

that actually wasn't that big state side

when I was growing up, despite their massive profile

across the pond.

They still became one of my favorites despite that, so let's tune up the bassoons, water the

garden and prep the stage. Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, If you've listened to strong songs for any amount of time you could be forgiven for thinking that music

adheres to certain rules. You might picture songwriters and composers reading and

memorizing the rulebook and then setting out to write songs that perfectly adhere to the rules

contained within it. A minor chord here leading to a dominant chord there, a

triplet here resolving to a pair of eighth notes there. But here's the thing, there are no rules.
