Summary

This week we visit with Captain Dave Pecci about early spring fishing in the Charlotte Harbor area of Florida. WE also talk once again about the current water quality issue in Florida. You may all be sick of hearing about it, but other than climate change the Everglades issue is one of the most serious immediate threats to both our freshwater and saltwater ecosystems. But don?t worry, we also talk about catching redfish, speckled trout, and snook. In The Fly Box this week we cover a broad range of topics, from the Eastern Green Drake hatch to small-stream steelhead tactics to the advantages of fiberglass rods.

0:40.0	going to talk about the Everglades situation which you may be tired of hearing about
0:44.8	for me but I feel it's such an important issue that it needs to be in front of
0:50.1	anyone who cares about our fresh and saltwater resources.
0:54.0	So anyway, we'll talk to Dave in a little bit, but right now let's get to the flybox.
1:00.0	And let's start with an email from Matt from Grand Rapids.
1:04.0	I have a question about streamer fishing, not necessarily fishing the streamers, but looking for tips or recommendations on setting up your fly rod to fish with streamers.
1:12.0	I currently use a
1:13.6	standard floating line with a five-foot fast sinking tip. At the end of the
1:19.1	sink tip I use a barrel swivel to connect the sink tip to tip it, typically 3X.
1:24.4	Then I use about 12 inches of that tip it before I connect the fly
1:29.2	with either a clinch knot or non-slip loop.
1:35.0	Not having much luck with streamers, I was wondering if there is something wrong with
1:39.2	this setup.
1:40.2	Does the barrel swivel or length of tippet deter a strike?
1:43.2	I've caught smallmouth using this setup, but no luck with browns.
1:46.4	Are browns a bit skittish to the point where I shouldn't use this setup?
