In 1976, Coach Dick Vermeale landed in Philadelphia.

The young coach was now responsible for one of the worst teams in the NFL.

Jimmy Murray said, coach, you come and turn this program more out, you'll be bigger than John

Wayne in Philadelphia.

That's what he says.

That's exactly what he said.

46 years later, Coach Vermeal is a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

But Vermeil was not an overnight success.

We go back to the beginning, Hillsdale High School and UCLA.

First saw Dick Vermeal as our coach in the summer of 1960 for summer practices,

and it was obvious from the very beginning that this was going to be a new
