Summary

We can get so caught up in the busyness, routine, and familiarity of Advent that we miss the main thing: Jesus isn’t focused on Christmas past but on his return. Given that, what if this Christmas season we choose to not only look back at Bethlehem—but equally celebrate the coming return of Jesus, known as the second Advent?

Show Notes: Show Notes: The essay John reads from is “The World’s Last Night,” by C. S. Lewis.

The song excerpt is from Most Like Home, by Kingdom Culture Worship. It can be found here.

those of you who are watching by video. And we're in the third week of Advent. And what we were

0:41.6

reflecting on last week is it's a period of preparation built into the church calendar that

for millennia, Christians have used these, you know, markers to say, okay, I'm going to slow down

0:58.1

and think about one thing for a moment.

1:01.0

I'm going to give it my attention.

1:03.2

Yes.

1:03.9

And we're giving the Christmas story our attention.

1:08.4

And it's difficult to do because last week we talked about familiarity

1:12.5

and how familiarity gets in the way.

1:15.8

This week, we're going to talk about something else

1:18.9

that gets in the way,

1:19.9

and I think this one's going to be even more eye-opening

1:23.7

and I hope helpful to you all

1:26.4

here in the third week of Advent.

1:28.9

But before we get there, let's pause.

1:33.3

As we come into our pause this week, I'm just curious, what is it that you need to release

right now?
