解放前，民间艺人们会结成各种花会组织参加庙会表演，杨敬伟从小长大的北京白纸坊，就曾是当时花会最多的地区，其中的太狮会更是一度闻名南城，不仅练狮子的人多，看得人更多。
如果听到 敲锣打钹，尤其还有一串铜铃铛声，各家各户尤其是小孩子们就会冲到街巷上，因为他们知道，舞狮人来了！
