We've spent a lot of time over the past half dozen episodes on Charles Manson and his followers,

trying to explain what was going on with them in the years and days leading up to the crimes that made them famous,

in the hope that doing so would help us understand events that otherwise seem insane.

Today we're going to put the family aside for a couple of episodes and begin to talk

about the victims of the Manson family. And because this is a podcast about

Hollywood, we're going to focus primarily on the victims who were part of the

entertainment industry and its surrounding social scene. People whose own lives and

careers have been eclipsed by the horrible way in which they died.

People rarely mention the name Sharon Tate

in a context other than the fact

that she was killed by the Manton family.

And if they do, it's almost always in the context of her being the wife of filmmaker Roman

Polanski.

Today we're going to talk about who Sharon Tate was before Charles Manson

and before she was Mrs Polanski. We're also going to talk about Jay Sebring,

a man who Tate was extremely close to, who today is also best known as a man's
