| 0:00.0 | Can you describe the day? |
| 0:01.0 | You realized for the first time, prescriptions were hurting people more than helping them. One thing that I thought was mind-blowing was that we did not study the drugs any longer than about a year. Most people take antidepressants for two years, three years, sometimes even decades. And our clinical research doesn't go any longer than a year. The group that gets medicated, they have a slightly lower depression score compared to the group on |
| 0:21.9 | placebo. But Lila, it's really small. On a 52 point scale, on average, it's about a two point difference. |
| 0:28.1 | Here's something else that most people aren't aware of. Any depressants actually increase the |
| 0:32.3 | likelihood that someone has a suicide attempt. You are lowering the depressive symptoms, but at the |
| 0:37.1 | same time, you're making |
| 0:38.3 | that group more suicidal. To me, it is madness that we give these drugs to children, teens, and young |
| 0:43.6 | adults. This language of chemical imbalance. Sounds like what you're saying is there is no such thing |
| 0:47.8 | as a chemical imbalance. Absolutely. I mean, we have looked. If somebody wants to live a happier life, |
| 0:52.7 | where do you recommend that they start? |
| 0:54.5 | There really is one thing that is at the root of so many problems. |
| 1:02.1 | Dr. Joseph, welcome to the Lila Rose Show. |
| 1:04.4 | Thank you so much for having me. |
| 1:05.9 | You were a medical officer at the FDA, which is the gatekeeper for the world's medicine. |
| 1:11.6 | Can you describe the day when you were sitting at your desk and you realized for the first time |
| 1:16.6 | that prescriptions were hurting people more than helping them? |
| 1:20.6 | One thing that I thought was mind-blowing was that we did not study the drugs any longer than about a year. And so that, |
| 1:29.6 | for me, that was the moment where I was just like, hang on a second. Most people take antidepressants |
| 1:36.3 | for two years, three years, sometimes even decades. Same with the benzodiazepines and the sedatives. |
| 1:42.2 | And our clinical research doesn't go any longer than a year. |
| 1:45.9 | And it just kind of hit me. |
| 1:47.3 | I was like, well, you know, is there a reason for this? |
